Antivert Medicine - Uses, Dosage And Side Effects

Antivert is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the naturally occurring chemical histamine in your body. Antivert is used to treat nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. Antivert may also be helpful in treating vertigo.

Antivert Dosage

* Adults and teenagers—The usual dose is 50 milligrams (mg) thirty minutes before travel. The dose may be repeated every four to six hours if needed. Not more than 150 mg should be taken in one day.
* Children Dose must be determined by your doctor.

Uses of Antivert

Antiviral medications may be given to people who have been in contact with someone who has chicken pox. Antiviral medications are generally given to people who are more likely to become seriously ill or develop complications from chicken pox. It may also be used to reduce lightheadedness, dizziness, and loss of balance (vertigo) caused by diseases that affect the inner ear.

Side Effects of Antivert

Before taken Antivert medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. They include:

* Headache or feelings of general illness (malaise).
* Nausea and vomiting.
* Diarrhea or constipation. This is rare.
* Kidney problems in people who receive large doses of acyclovir by rapid injection into a vein. This is rare.

Warnings and precautions before taking Antivert:

If you have asthma, glaucoma, or an enlarged prostate gland, check with your doctor before using Antivert. This medicine may cause drowsiness. Does not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. This medicine will add to the effect of other depressants or alcohol.

You should tell your doctor your medical history, especially if you have glaucoma, prostate problems, urinary problems, asthma, and any allergies. Before using this medication, you should inform your doctor if you are pregnant and planning to become pregnant.

Drug Interaction:-

If you are taking Antivert with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Antivert may intensify the effects of alcohol. So you should tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of drugs that have a drowsiness effect such as medications for cough and allergies, drugs used for sleep, anti-seizure medications, narcotic pain drugs, barbiturates, and tranquilizers.

Overdose

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unusual excitability, drowsiness, hallucinations, very slow or shallow breathing, and seizures.
