Serax (oxazepam) Drug Information

Serax is a drug which belongs to a class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. Serax can be used to treat anxiety disorders related with depression. It works by slowing down the neurons in the brain (central nervous system). Serax or Oxazepam drug is particularly effective for anxiety, tension, agitation, and irritability in older people. It is also prescribed to relieve symptoms of acute alcohol withdrawal.

How to Take Serax

Take Serax (Oxazepam) exactly as prescribed. It is available in tablet form.

What are the Side Effects of Serax -

Like all medicines, Serax can cause some side-effects. Some common side effects reported with this medicine include the following. Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

* Headache
* Drowsiness
* Blood disorders,
* change in sex drive,
* dizziness,
* excitement,
* fainting,
* hives,
* liver problems,
* loss or lack of muscle control,
* nausea,
* skin rashes or eruptions,
* sluggishness or unresponsiveness,
* slurred speech,
* swelling due to fluid retention,
* tremors,
* vertigo,
* yellowed eyes

Some other side effects associated with Serax Drug include - Abdominal and muscle cramps, convulsions, depressed mood, inability to fall or stay asleep, sweating, tremors, vomiting.

Serax intraction with other drugs:

Some drugs should not be taken with Serax. Tell your doctor if you are taking other drugs.

Warnings and precautions before taking Serax :

* If you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to Serax or other tranquilizers such as Valium, you should not take Serax / Oxazepam medication.
* Tell your doctor before taking Serax if you are pregnant.
* Talk with your physician or pharmacist if you are taking other medications.
* Breast Feeding - Mothers who are taking Serax and who wish to breast-feed should discuss this with their doctor.
* Serax medication may cause your blood pressure to drop. If you have any heart problems, consult your doctor before taking this medication.

What if Overdose of Serax ?

If you think you or anyone else may have taken too many Serax, immediately telephone your doctor or contact your local or regional Poisons Information Centre Seek medical attention immediately. You may need urgent medical attention.

What if Missed Dose of Serax?

If you miss a dose of Serax medicine and you remember within an hour or so, take the dose immediately. If you do not remember until later, skip the dose you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

Storage Conditions for Serax:

Store Serax at room temperature in a dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
