However, although you will probably feel better when you have lost weight, it is possible to start feeling better now, which in turn, will make losing weight a little bit easier. Finding activities which make you feel better and focusing on people and things which make you happy is something you can do right away - you don't have to wait until you're thinner. Getting yourself to feel better is easier when you aren't downright miserable. So start practising when you are feeling reasonably good. As you get better at it, you'll find it easier to move out of the really negative feelings when they hit.
The first step is to find things that you do feel good about and focus on those. It can be really simple, everyday things. If you can't find anything about yourself which you can feel good about, start with something or someone around you. Does stroking a cat or playing with a child cheer you up? How about wandering around the park and really looking at the spring flowers or the colour of the leaves in autumn. Perhaps you really enjoy listening to a piece of music or dancing to a track by your favourite band.
You will find that when you feel better, it's much easier to exercise and to say no to forbidden foods, since it's when you are feeling miserable that you tend to eat for comfort. So you'll discover that your weight loss diet is easier to follow and you'll if you try using this technique. Of course, it's normal to have has ups and downs, and so don't expect to feel better all the time, but if you do start to take control, you'll find you get better with practice and you'll understand how weight loss can be improved.
