Teak Patio Furniture – Does It Really Last A Lifetime?

When designing your patio, you’ve probably thought about the design of the patio, the dimensions, the canopy, the materials and what type of protective coating are you going use on it. But more often than not, you haven’t thought about the furniture you’re going to be using. There are dozens of styles, types, colors, and materials to choose, from aluminum, cast iron and wood. Wood is always a popular and natural choice and while cedar is nice, teak is better.

Teak, also called Jati, is a hardwood tree usually found in tropical climates and is native to South America and Southeast Asia. This hardwood is used often in the manufacture of outdoor furniture and boat decks because it is highly weather resistant, it’s easily worked, and the natural oils help to make it hold up in even the most exposed situations.

Teak can be oiled or varnished to a beautiful finish for added elegance or protection, but holds up equality well when left in its natural condition. If you live in an area that has termites, you definitely want to use Teak as your patio furniture wood of choice, its natural oils make it highly resistant to termites.

Teak patio furniture, when varnished, will give off a warm, rich, inviting glow that is definitely something desirable in your outside living room. Not to mention that having teak patio furniture is one way to get the admiration and compliments of any who visit. And because of its durable nature and resistance to wood eating bugs, teak offers the opportunity to have a truly timeless patio furniture set that can adapt to your patio furniture needs as the years go by.

Another thing to consider when choosing your patio furniture is the style you’re going to want. Teak is a highly workable wood, and because it is a hardwood, it maintains its durability in the elements. Because teak is so weather resistant, in it’s natural state, it takes on a weathered look that is equally as nice as the shine of lacquer, varnish or oils. This versatility allows teak patio furniture to fit in with any style of patio and any style of home.

With the right style, you can even use your Teak Patio furniture indoors, if necessary and just take it right back outside. Teak, indoors or out, is a wood that truly makes a fine piece of weather resistant, durable, and beautiful piece of furniture. Few people ever regret decorating their patio spaces with teak patio furniture.
