Have you ever been on holidays, lugged heavy bags around all week and then on getting home realized you never used half the stuff you took?
Yes, me too. All that hard work of carrying heavy bags, for no good reason other than, you though you might need it.
It’s all very well to want to look fashionable and wear the ‘right’ shoes with the ‘right’ outfit. This is great, when your at home. But by day two of your holiday, you will be more relaxed and it’s suddenly not so important.
So from now on, we are taking the bare minimum and nothing more.
Step one is to consider where you are going. What will the weather be like? What will you need? See, I said need – this is very different to want.
The most important idea is to
make a list of what clothes to take.
How many days and nights will you be away? Work out what to wear each day. Will you be staying in the same place for more than one night? You can wash something out in the basin and let it dry overnight.
Get the clothes out, shoes and underwear. Now take a good look at them. And be ruthless, put back what you don’t need.
That second pair of jeans can go back – you can wear the first pair more than once. And are you really going to wear all those shirts? Put them back and just keep the non-iron ones.
I have some friends that often go on 4 day bicycle riding holidays – riding forty miles a day doesn’t sound like a holiday to me, but each to their own. And they survive with just one change of clothing. Not sure they smell all that good by the time they get home but they survive and keep doing it.
Now, I don’t suggest that you go that extreme (I certainly won’t) but you can cut down.
And, when you are away and you do find you need an extra shirt, why not buy a shirt from where you are with a logo on it as a memento of your holiday.
We once traveled overseas and took an empty bag – we knew the shopping was cheaper there and just bought the clothes we needed.
So next time you pack your bags, make a list of your clothes and then put half of them back.
You will be so glad you did and will enjoy your holiday just that bit more for not having to deal with such heavy bags.
Happy Traveling
